What is CSOL is essential knowledge for those interested in the 482 and 186 visas. What is CSOL differs from the traditional MLTSSL and STSOL. This article explains it in detail.
CSOL là gì
What is CSOL can be understood as the Core Skills Occupation List – a new core skills occupation list introduced by Australia on December 3, 2024 and applied from December 7, 2024, alongside the rollout of the Skills in Demand visa replacing the TSS visa.
CSOL applies only to the 482 visa Core Skills stream and the 186 visa Direct Entry stream. CSOL has about 456 occupations as of early 2026, updated by Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA) based on the National Occupation Shortage Report.
Why CSOL was created
CSOL was created to simplify the previously complex system of lists. Before CSOL, employer-sponsored visas used multiple overlapping lists. CSOL consolidates the old lists into a unified framework.
CSOL was designed to respond more quickly to the labor market. JSA uses employment data, vacancy rates, wage growth, and industry consultation to recommend adjustments to CSOL. This mechanism aims to reduce the influence of political lobbying.
CSOL in a migration strategy
Those interested in the 482 or 186 visa need to check whether their occupation is on CSOL before negotiating with an employer. Each occupation on CSOL has information on the applicable visa stream, salary threshold, experience requirements, and assessing authority.
CSOL does not replace MLTSSL, STSOL, or ROL for the 189, 190, and 491 categories. The traditional lists are still used for the points-tested, self-sponsored categories. Look up occupations on CSOL on the Home Affairs website by occupation name or ANZSCO 2022 code.
