Frequently asked questions about exchange rates

Where does the exchange rate on this page come from?
Exchange rates are compiled from published bank rates and updated automatically. When a connection cannot be made, the tool shows the most recent reference rate so you still have an estimate.
How do “Buy cash”, “Buy transfer” and “Sell” differ?
Cash buying rate is the rate at which the bank buys foreign cash from you; transfer buying rate is the rate for buying via bank transfer (usually higher); selling rate is the rate at which the bank sells foreign currency to you (using VND to buy foreign currency).
Why are JPY and KRW shown per 100 units?
The Japanese Yen (JPY) and Korean Won (KRW) have a small value per unit, so banks quote them per 100 units for readability. The conversion tool automatically normalises to 1 unit when calculating.
Is this exchange rate used to prove finances for immigration?
The exchange rate is for reference only. When proving finances for an immigration application, immigration authorities and banks apply the rate and rules in effect at the time of submission. You should contact M2W for specific advice.
How often is the exchange rate updated?
Exchange rates are updated automatically. The tool caches results for 5 minutes for faster loading and to avoid excessive calls.
