Canberra, 01/07/2025 — Úc.

From July 1, 2025, the Australian Department of Home Affairs raised the salary thresholds applicable to the Skills in Demand (subclass 482) and Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) visas by 4.6%, based on the Average Weekly Ordinary Time Earnings (AWOTE) index published by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

New Threshold Details

The Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT) rises from 73,150 AUD to 76,515 AUD per year. The Specialist Skills Income Threshold (SSIT) rises from 135,000 AUD to 141,210 AUD per year. Both thresholds apply to nominations and visa applications lodged from July 1, 2025 onward.

The CSIT threshold also applies to the Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) for nominations lodged from December 7, 2024. The cash component of a candidate’s total annual earnings must be greater than or equal to the applicable CSIT or SSIT.

Annual Adjustment Mechanism

The Australian Department of Home Affairs states that these thresholds are adjusted annually based on average weekly earnings data published by the ABS for the fourth quarter of the preceding year. The 4.6% increase reflects actual wage growth in Australia.

The superannuation guarantee (mandatory retirement contribution rate) was also adjusted from July 1, 2025, rising from 11.5% to 12%. Employers sponsoring subclass 482 and 494 visas need to ensure compliance with the new SG rate.

Practical Implications

The higher salary thresholds mean Australian employers sponsoring foreign workers must pay higher wages to comply with the rules. This may boost the competitiveness of local Australian workers but also puts cost pressure on industries with lower-paying occupations.

For candidates immigrating through employer-sponsored skilled categories, the new thresholds mean the required offered salary must be higher than the previous year. The next threshold adjustment will take effect from July 1, 2026, based on new ABS data.
