The visa 482 salary threshold is a hard requirement for both the Core Skills and Specialist Skills streams. The visa 482 salary threshold is adjusted annually based on ABS data. This article explains the specifics.
Current visa 482 salary threshold
The visa 482 salary threshold for the 2025-2026 financial year (from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026) has two levels. The Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT) is 76,515 AUD per year, applying to the Core Skills stream and visa 186. The Specialist Skills Income Threshold (SSIT) is 141,210 AUD per year, applying to the Specialist Skills stream.
The visa 482 salary threshold increased by 4.6% from 1 July 2025 based on the ABS Average Weekly Ordinary Time Earnings (AWOTE) index. The previous CSIT was 73,150 AUD and the SSIT was 135,000 AUD in the 2024-2025 financial year.
How the threshold is applied
The salary in the job offer must meet the corresponding threshold OR the Annual Market Salary Rate (AMSR)—the market salary rate for an equivalent position. Whichever figure is higher applies.
The cash component must be greater than or equal to the corresponding CSIT/SSIT. Items such as the superannuation guarantee and uncertain year-end bonuses are not counted toward the threshold. This is an important point many applicants overlook.
Updates and notes
The visa 482 salary threshold is updated annually on 1 July. Interested parties should monitor the current financial year’s level on the Home Affairs website before negotiating with an employer.
The superannuation guarantee (mandatory pension contribution rate) increased from 11.5% to 12% from 1 July 2025. Employers need to ensure compliance with both the salary threshold and the new SG rate. Regulations may be updated; you should check the current requirements.
You should refer to official Home Affairs website and Home Affairs – Skilled visas to check current conditions.
