SkillSelect and EOI: How to Receive an Invitation for Australian Skilled Visas

SkillSelect is the mandatory gateway for every points-tested Australian skilled visa application. You cannot apply for the visa directly; you must be invited through this system after submitting an expression of interest.

SkillSelect là gì

SkillSelect is the Australian Government’s online system where workers express their interest in a skilled visa. You create an Expression of Interest (EOI) profile detailing your experience and qualifications.

Only once invited can you submit a formal visa application.

How the EOI process works

Theo the Australian Department of Home Affairs, you need a skills assessment result before submitting an EOI.

The points system ranks applicants based on the information declared. The 189, 190 and 491 categories are all points-tested, with a minimum threshold of 65 points.

After submitting the EOI

An EOI is valid for 2 years in the system. If invited, you have 60 days to complete and submit the visa application.

Important note: reaching 65 points is the minimum requirement, not a guarantee of being invited, as the actual cut-off is often higher.

Tips to improve your chances

The higher the score, the greater the chance of being invited. You should optimize factors such as English proficiency and consider a state nomination through Subclass 190.

The first step is always to complete skills assessment. The M2W team will advise on a points strategy to get invited sooner.
