The Specialist Skills stream is the premium stream of visa 482 for specialists earning from 141,210 AUD. The Specialist Skills stream gets priority processing and has more flexible occupation requirements. This article explains the details.
Specialist Skills stream là gì
The Specialist Skills stream is the premium stream of the visa 482 Skills in Demand, for workers earning at least the Specialist Skills Income Threshold (SSIT)—141,210 AUD for the 2025-2026 financial year.
This stream is for senior specialists in industries requiring special skills and is not limited by the Core Skills Occupation List as the Core Skills stream is. The occupation requirements are much broader and more flexible.
Requirements of the Specialist Skills stream
The Specialist Skills stream requires: an offered salary of at least the SSIT (141,210 AUD for the 2025-2026 financial year), an occupation in ANZSCO Major Group 1 (Managers), 2 (Professionals), or 3 (Technicians and Trades), at least 1 year of relevant experience, and Vocational English (IELTS 5.0+ or equivalent).
Unlike the Core Skills stream, which requires a specific occupation on the CSOL, the Specialist Skills stream accepts occupations within three broad ANZSCO Major Groups. This is a flexible feature for highly specialized occupations that may not yet be on the CSOL.
Priority processing
Home Affairs processes Specialist Skills stream applications quickly, aiming to finalize them within 7 working days. This is a major advantage compared with the Core Skills stream, which targets 21 working days.
The pathway to permanent residence: similar to the Core Skills stream, after 2 years holding visa 482 and working for the sponsoring employer, one can transition to the visa 186 Temporary Residence Transition stream. Regulations may be updated.
You should refer to official Home Affairs website and danh sách CSOL to check current conditions.
